Oscar Wilde
Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde became famous for his poems and plays early on in his life. His most famous work was his novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray. He was most heavily influenced by Walter Pater and John Ruskin. Pater and Ruskin were his tutors while Wilde was studying aestheticism in university. Wilde was jailed from 1895-1897 for “gross indecency” with men. His time spent in prison inspired his last work, The Ballad of Reading Goal.
